Through music appreciation, the Global Citizenship Education Network seeks to improve the minds of global learners, and extend a deeper understanding of music that results in improved prospects for global peace and the elevation of the individual mind. To mark the transition of Secretary Generals of the United Nations, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in October 2016 played Beethoven’s Egmont overture, Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. GCEN has chosen the third movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto #23 as its official music. GCEN strongly believes that music has a transformative effect on learners that will help develop support for common values like culture, science, and peace.
